Provider Spotlight: Aim High PDX

Parents and caregivers of children with autism deeply understand the significant challenge of finding appropriate services for their loved ones. They live it every single day. Many clinics simply can’t meet their needs in a meaningful way. Perhaps they only offer part-time services. Or maybe they stop treating children once they turn 18.

At Aim High PDX, Director Doug Ownby and his team are eager to help as many families as possible receive what they need. His journey with Aim High started in 2013 as he sought a martial arts program for his daughter before eventually stepping into the director’s role in 2019.

Today, Doug is thrilled to watch how the organization has grown and expanded to serve more and more people. He’s excited to see Aim High positioned as a resource center for families impacted by autism, providing effective tools, training, and support.

Aim High Impact Brings ABA to the Portland Metro Area

Aim High initially began as a martial arts school focusing on integrity, kindness, and respect. With specific attention paid to anti-bullying support, Aim High helped many children and adults gain the skills and confidence to navigate less-than-kind situations.

With so much need and so much potential, Aim High soon grew to include Aim High Impact, an organization offering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children and teens with mild to severe autism.

Clinic Director Dana Donaldson wanted to address a gap in care that she saw in her work as a Behavior Analyst. People were aging out of services, leaving a large number of young adults without the support they needed and deserved. Additionally, many clinics wouldn’t serve children or young adults with severe autism.

Officially launched in 2017, Impact is the behavioral health branch of the Aim High PDX umbrella organization. Aim High Impact offers full-day, part-time, and after-school sessions with individualized ABA services, authentic peer interactions, and care collaboration.

Their highly-trained staff is eager to support clients with compassion and expertise to help each individual achieve all they can. And since they function as a team, there is no gap in services if a therapist is out for illness or vacation. Continuity of care is critical for individuals with autism, and Aim High takes it seriously.

Aim High Gives Hope and Encouragement

The staff at Aim High understands how difficult it is to find services that not only help with a client’s current behavioral challenges but also help set them up for future success. Many programs underestimate how capable people with autism are and how much they can achieve. Other options merely provide a temporary bandage without providing long-term skills.

Our clients deserve a team of professionals who won’t shortchange their potential to live a fulfilling and often independent life. The Aim High team supports parents and their children in reaching for the stars every single day.
